My Adventures With Students Abroad
Who Am I ?
My name is Katie Carrasco and I am a high school social studies teacher and travel enthusiast. I first traveled out of the United States when I was in college wherein I discovered my passion for lifelong learning and an appreciation for lands and cultures near and far.
I started traveling with my students in 2014 with the itineraries and planning support provided by Education First (EF) tours. I tend to seek out opportunities for students to learn how to become global travelers, and not just tourists so these trips often have a thematic focus. We have restored coral reefs in the Dominican Republic, laid foundation for a school in Tanzania, visited the International Court of Justice in the Hague, Netherlands, learned about the lavender industry while touring a farm in Provence, and the list goes on.
"If I'm an advocate for anything, it's to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else's shoes or at least eat their food, it's a plus for everybody. Open your mind, get up off the couch, move."
-Anthony Bourdain (who we had the unique pleasure of meeting during one of our trips!).
It should be noted that these are private travel experiences and are not sponsored by or affiliated with Pflugerville Independent School District.
